How to remove exterior trim
 

Hey, I have a 69 comvertible tempest that I am working on and i think I want to police the exterior time. The lower trim looks self-explanatory to take off, but the rear and windshield trim looks tricky and last thing I want to do is kink it. Anyway, I was wondering how I go about taking this off. I can't even get the windshield wiper arms off.

There is a special tool made to remove windshield trim. Our host sells them for $14.

I just looked. what is it called?

It is called window molding remover tool, Part #CA39, For the wiper arm tool, RPF194T,$9.00. The bottom long trim - There will be 2 -1/4 bolts on the bottom of them also.

I'm about to order these, but are there any additional parts needed or will these two parts take all of the exterior trim off? I don't want to order not enough..

You can probably get those tools at your local autoparts store.

Sadly, not likely anymore. Out here they may have the older tools in the catalog still available, but you have to order them. These wiper arms and trim styles haven't been used on production cars in almost 25 years now.

The trim removal tool works great on the front windshield, however the rear convertible trim is another story. That trim is held on by MULTIPLE screws going into the body itself. Just when you think you have them all out, there is another screw holding the trim on. Be careful!

Hey, I know this isn't completely relevant to this thread, but I figured I start enough so I had might as well just ask it here. The exterior trim/bezels....are they chromed or polished? I am just wanting to know so I can know whether to buy new stuff or just polish it. I mean in particularly the front parking bezels, headlight bezel, grill mouldings, and lower valance moulding.

Those parts are chromed, get your wallett out! :D

You can polish the rocker, wheel well, drip rail and window trim to your hearts content though. Those are stainless.

Ouch, I guess it's make-do until next year. Ah well, Rome wasn't built in a day

Good...ya that I guessed was able to polish...mine looks cloudy enough that it looked to me like it needs a hard-core polish.
