Trying to educate the uneducated hurts.

I saw This ebay motors article on the Pontiacs at Mecum.
He made a few mistakes, and I pointed out that a 400 is not a big block. His comment back to me tried to teach me what a 400 was. So again I had to explain what a Pontiac motor was. *sigh* :old:

I see this all the time on ebay ads regarding turbo regals grand nationals etc even from big time classic car dealers...

I usually don't comment however when I do I sometimes will state research my name and it helps verify to them that I know what I am talking about....

Turbo Regals can be very confusing in my world they had T-Types Turbo-Ts T-Tops WE4s and WE2 Limited turbos just a huge mix of whatever sicne production of the rear wheel drive platform was coming to an end....then you add 25 plus years to this and its no wonder companies get the info incorrect.

GTO world being well over 25 years old can be just as confusing...

I've never called someone out on the subject. I use it as a signal to listen to the person or just let go in one ear and out the other :blabla:. For some automotive folks it's just to hard to understand, they will shake the head up and down but next LeMans they see will have that small block 326.

That "307" is so big they can't find a camera large enough.

It seems that you did help to educate the ignorant. The article is now fixed and makes no allusions to the fabled Pontiac "big block".

Captainofiron 12-19-2013 01:01 PM

Looks like he went back and edited the article, changed it to Dual Gate shifter and I see no mention of Pontiac big block in there anymore.

Good job

BUT would the turbo 301 be a small block and the rest be a big block?
just joking.

PMD1969 12-19-2013 01:12 PM

Wait a second here. I like the idea of having a Pontiac small block vs big block identifier as it means that my 250 OHC is the "big block" :D

"Hey, that don't look like my 305. That must be a BIG BLOCK! "

bullheimer 12-20-2013 01:55 AM

SORRY 69, a 250 is obviously a small block.

(this post made simply to qualify for the drawing, tah tah!)

Last week I saw a Shelby GT500 that was claimed to have a Cobra Jet. In 1968, only the KR had the CJ, so I pointed this out to the seller - he made a mistake. As it was a dealer, it either was an honest mistake because they are handling a lot of cars, or they're ignorant. I merely pointed out the engine was not a CJ in a bid to help them.

The response I received was kinda "know-it-all on the Internet, yadda yadda" and then he demanded to know what I could have seen to suggest this.

I didn't like his insulting tone but I pointed out his own documentation via Marti Auto Works shows it to be a Police Interceptor.

Later, the owner messaged me and apologized, saying "I hired a guy who took it upon himself...." Regardless of the truth on his end, sometimes a good deed doesn't go unpunished. Nice to see the writer of this article was open to discussing the topic and making amends to those more knowledgeable.

that ZH of your is CERTAINLY a big block Chevy truck engine.

POSSIBLY a JEEP rock crawl engine (when fuel injected), and

CERTAINLY a big block European sports car engine.

and most certainly in need of electronic ignition to realize the fun factor. :ranger: HIS

I've often found that when viewing obvious errors in description there are usually other issues as well causing me to lose interest in the car or part. I long ago quit calling people out.

GT182 12-20-2013 08:56 PM

PMD... yours is the "Big Block 6". I had one in my 71 Camaro. And with the Cherry Bomb muffler, it was always called out by someone to race them. It dodn't help seeing it was painted like Baldwin Motion's Camaros of the early 70s. I had more laughs trying to fend them off, but always broke down and gave them the laugh.
