What plating for master cylinder lid on 79 TA/SE with 4wheel disc & W72
What type of plating should be on the master cylinder lid for a 1979 Trans Am SE with 4 wheel disc and the W72 400 Pontiac engine?
|
It should match the brake booster....yellow/gold zinc......
|
Thanks for replying! I will need to include it with the power brake booster when getting it plated.

I've seen a couple of 4 wheel disc 79's, they had the plastic reservoir/aluminum type master cylinders. All the front disc. rear drums were iron w/ steel lids...
I don't know everything, though... :) |

i do know you can but new boosters with the correct stamping in the platted and non platted version
and if i'm not mistaken the MC was cast iron, at least from all the various photos of low mileage cars i have seen, but who knows.... perhaps a few didn't get them some things on the 79's may be different (power steering lines, etc as they started transitioning to metric) |
Also, the master cylinder was painted black

Google 79 trans am engine and click on images and you will see original
engine compartments with black painted master cylinders. I have owned two 79 WS6 T/A's and both came with black painted master cylinders. Both were California built cars. |
Agreed...I've owned several 79 WS6 cars, including my current low mile original, and all were black MC with zinc cover and booster.

Would that be a semi gloss black for the mastercylinder? |

I was going to have the proportioning valve bracket done in yellow zinc also as it looks like it was that way. |

One more thing, if you want to be totally correct, these cars had a paper
tag about 3/4 inch square with a two letter code on it applied to the middle of the brake booster above the master cylinder. I reproduced my tag in vinyl when I restored my car so it wouldn't deteriorate. I get Fast Signs to make duplicates of all the paper tags on my cars when I restore them for the springs, brake lines etc. The tag on the booster is white with black letters. I can't remember for sure what the letters were.....NH I think. Maybe someone else on the forum knows what the letters are. I would have to look tonite when I get home. |
