Interesting to read their first impressions of the new style.

It's not a Grand Am. ;)
Blunt nose, big bumper, big windows.

Cool photo Alvin. Notice that although it has the big bumper, it sticks out a lot less then the production version.

I worked at the GM DPG for four years ('90 - '94) in both driveline and brake development.

We still used those little "brake test" signs when I was there.

Never say never - after all it's a proving grounds test mule, so...that front bumper reminds me of the rear used on the front, something about it is just odd looking.
I was going to say those wheel covers (hub caps) were Grand Am only, perhaps not.

And; looks like they may have gone past the limit on the brake test a time or two w the crumpled front fender. :D

But it may be a SC wo the lovered windows shown below...

Found this look alike. Note the front bumper position extended on the gas impact shock mts.
Edit: Note the 1970ish dual whitewall tires on the test mule rear.

Those wheel covers were standard on the Grand Am, but available on just about every other model, I think starting in 1972. I've seen them on a POCI class winning 72 GTO, as well as Firebirds, Grand Prixes, and full-size cars.

The front bumper shocks may be pushed in from the same impact that damaged the fender.
