BOP day 2014 at Island Dragway
 

I've been in communication with Island about having a BOP day at Island in 2014.

They mentioned Father's Day. I told them that Maple Grove usually has their Pontiac Day on this day, after the PY Open House.

So far, she has the following dates still open:

Sept 6
Sept 13
Oct 4
Oct 11

If any of you have Olds and Buick friends, spread the word. Email Island directly with you choices.

I emailed Melissa about this today also (must be something in the air) and posted in the other Island thread. Are you sure about MG - I thought it was off for this year and that Father's Day would be a good choice for Island since a lot of Pontiac people would already be in the area.

Doesn't really matter to me - I'm an hour away - but couldn't hurt to tie in with the PY weekend or the POCI show like they used to do.

I'm just going off last year.

If MG does not have the event, then Father's Day may work for Island.

Unfortunately I am likely out if it is Father's Day, I have a family wedding in Chicago. The others dates should be ok for me. Thanks for the effort and follow up.

It would be nice to have a BOP day that is close. Now that I have the TKO 5 speed, I would not mind going down the track.

As far as safety equipment what do I need? I am sure that the car is not any faster than High 14's. If I had to guess.

I think Fathers Day would be the worst for a good turnout. I'm in for any other date as I will arrange my schedule around it. After all this involves Pontiacs. I would try to get one of the Sept dates before the weather starts to deteriorate. As I remember Norwalk originated in mid to late Sept and was moved to August. We never had a weather problem at Island in August for Pontiac Power Sunday. FWIW

I would lean torwards Sept 13th, Oct 4 or 11. We do not want to compete with Maple Grove event. Would like those racers to come to Island.

I wouldn't want to compete with MG either - my understanding was that MG is not happening this year. Seems we need to confirm this before considering the June date. On the other hand nothing wrong with the fall dates either but I still feel attendance will be better if we can tie in to one of the two big shows.

Does anyone have the dates for the POCI show?

From their schedule, MG has Father's Day not listed??

I've been watching that too - Chevy, Ford, Mopar on, but no Pontiac; and Father's Day is open.

Driver's meeting for Island is this Saturday. I plan on going and will check status of the "Domestic Iron" race that was in the works for father's day as well as other dates still available. If I can't make it I'll have someone get the info for me. Anyone else going let me know - we can meet up.

It looks like it will be sponsored by BPG.

I just picked up an Island Dragway 2014 Calendar at my friend's auto parts store in Great Meadows. September 6th is BOP day according to that calendar. It does not appear on their website or their printed schedule I picked up too.

It doesn't mention a car show, just racing. Anyone know anything more?

I was there last weekend for Don Garlits on Sunday and I could see anything that said BOP either.

Yeah, it's on the website now. Gates open 1pm with optional Test N Tune. Goes till 7pm.

Is this event strictly a "racing" event?
