Is the pin location the same on 428 and 455 piston? Or in other words, can a 428+60 be used in a standard bore 455?

Also, it appears KB is the only mfg that offers a dished piston for a Pontiac application. Any others?

No, each has it's own pin height because of difference in stroke, 4.00" vs 4.21".

A 428 +.031 would be std 455 bore size as far as bore size is concerned.

Ross offers dished Pontiac pistons.

RaceTec offers a nice dished piston (23ccs in this case) for less $$ than Ross, here is one from a set I ordered for a 421 in std 428 bore size (4.120"):

What he said, and both the Icon[KB] and the Race-Tec are nice pistons for a good price. Just don't go the Hyper-eutectic route with the KB pistons.

I am rebuilding my '69 WT with 48 heads using a 3" main 455 Ohio Crank. The block is standard and would be fine at .30 but I need to use a dished piston. The KB piston has a 30cc dish which might be too much but the Race Tech at 23cc would be better.

I have a new set of 428 60 over pistons and rods but it appears they will not work.

Not a race car and hate to go .60 but unless I get custom pistons made there is not much else available.

I'm doing my 65 HO. I am going to have to find a 421 type piston(valve reliefs) because I am retaining the original heads. I contacted Butler. 895.00 for Ross pistons and Eagle 6.8 rods.

What was the price for these pistons?

Call RaceTec, they will custom make you whatever you want for a shelf part price. The guys that started Race-Tec, came from JE pistons. Nice pistons at a good price. You'll probably save $200-$300.

I paid just under $600 for these (pins and spiroloks included) and about $130 for the ring set, plus CA sales tax. Price has gone up a little by now, I bought them about 2 years ago. Cheaper than Ross pistons and they run at a tighter clearance for street use, .0035" if I'm not mistaken.

All my pistons and rods are mounted up and rings are on. I weighed them and 4 of them are 1719g, 2 are 1717g and 2 are 1715g. I think the 19 and the 17s are ok but I'm not sure about the 15s. I'm not sure I can grind enough off the 19s to bring them down to 17grams. I would have to start taking it from under the top of the piston and I would rather not do that. Wondering what you guys think?
If it makes a difference, the two 15s are on opposing firing cylinders(cylinder 2 and 3 firing 180 deg from each other).

Probe also has off the shelf dished pistons. Where do they fit in the pecking order?

They're a high quality piston,along the lines of Ross,Icon,and others.

But I'm not away of them offering an off the shelf dished piston for the 428 combos.

Ace may have had some like that when he was running PPR,but he had some sorta inside deal with them (Probe),you know,he'd buy so many sets and they'd make 'em however he wanted them,but the Probe catalog does'nt list a lot of what Ace was selling,so likely they're not a true shelf piston available directly from them.

An example would be the 350 and stroker 350/383 forged pistons he was selling,they were indeed Probe SRS (sportsman race series) pistons,but they are'nt listed in the catalog either,thus not likely available @ retail pricing and such unless ordering multiple sets @ once,otherwise they're a true custom piston set,and then priced accordingly.

Sorry, the Probe dished piston is only listed for the 4.21 stroke.
