New increased inlet capacity oil pump

All of us at LPI are pleased to announce a new chapter in the pursuit of better oiling systems for our beloved Pontiacs.
After extensive R&D we are now offering our increased inlet capacity oil pump with bolt on conical shaped pickup screens. The bolt on pickup screen can be tailored to most any pan depth, stock to race depths. The new pump features O-ring seals from the block mounting flange to pick-up flange to minimize any type of leakage which can contribute to cavitation. We will be introducing our new thrust plate with integral pressurized oiling mods for the bottom of the pump gears. This plate is made out of a new material used exclusively in hydraulic pump industry. The plate is available as a separate item also. Price is $51.00 We have incorporated our new linear piloted pressure relief ball and spring assembly to minimize cracking and erratic movement typically found in the stock arrangement. The main improvement comes in the area of increased inlet size and capacity. We have increased the inlet tube size and redesigned the actual pickup screen to be a cone for better inlet flow with less turbulence. These changes have produced approximately a 90% increase in area over the performance ¾” inlet pickups currently being used. Why is this important? As the rpm of the engine goes up so does the rpm of the pump. The current design moves into a cavitation state around 5000 engine rpm due to the lack of flow volume to the pump gears. As the engine rpm increases the pump has to work harder and the output demand surpasses the supply and causes even more cavitation. Another contributing factor in the oiling system is the necessity of windage plates in the oil pan. With today’s large stroke crankshaft motors there is more windage in the oil pan area and this must be addressed to prevent the windage from uncovering the oil pump pickup at increased rpm levels. I ran the LPI theory past our "Oil Pump Lady" (Research Lubricants/Oil Systems Technical Expert) at work and she agreed with everything that was posted above.
I plan on purchasing a couple of the pump systems once I measure the depth of my oil pans. Tom V. |

adjustable pickup lengths
The new increased inlet bolt on pickup comes in the following "stock" sizes for most oil pan applications:
8.00" deep pans 8.5" deep pans (Moroso, Canton, Stef's) 9.00" deep pans We can easily make a pickup to any length to meet your oil pan depth needs. |

Hi Nate,
If the pump is similar to the typical Pontiac spur gear with a 4 bolt bottom plate then we should be able to accommodate your request. I am curious as well, please send the pump to us and I will let you know what I determine. By the way your Judge is a really cool color combination. Always liked the painted top cars. Thanks, Herb |
I believe all parts are interchangeable it's just the body casting is shaped differently. I wish I had one to send you, I have a 370 but no oil pump and I'm not entirely sure what direction I'm going yet with my project. If I come up with one soon I'll send it to you to look at.
