73 GTO HO?

just saw one for sale. Is there such a thing as an HO 455 in a 73 GTO? If so,how rare?

77 Canamman 02-02-2014 08:25 AM

No such thing as a true HO in '73. The 455 in 1973 was like all of the others that year. 250 HP.

Production numbers:

519 455 F37 Sport Coupes

25 455 D37 coupe

cleveland craigslist if any wants it

I like that car, but it needs a ton of detail work done to it to make it even remotely worth the asking price.

rexs73gto 02-02-2014 05:40 PM

This car was also posted on the A-Body site . Someone else found it to & the ad says 455 HO , I did send the guy a message to ask what he ment by 455 HO. I don't think he's going to answer me as I did want to know if it my by chance have had an early modle 455 HO engine in it . Maybe he put an HO engine in it , but he has not answered me back yet.. IMO I think he just put that in there thinking someone would think it was better then it is to get a bigger dollar for it.

My father had a 73 455 gto bench seats auto factory gold color. Would this be a rare car?

rexs73gto 02-02-2014 10:26 PM

Just being a real 73 GTO makes it rare, so if you have the car still & it's in good shape keep it & bring it back to life. If you don't have it but can get it back I'd say do it as any 73 GTO is rare & the 455 cars are the few that were made the few of that year. There were more of the 73 GTO with 400's in them. But again to answer your question any 73 GTO is rare as they only made 4807 total GTO's in 73. ANY PIC"S ?????? New or old.

Stolen in 1980, 80k on it. I think we have pics somewhere,I'll look around and see what I can dig up. Bought it from Wilson Pontiac in warminster pa came with moon hubcaps naca hood. He had to get a car eval from Dennis Kirban to get a decent price from the insurance co .

rexs73gto 02-03-2014 04:40 AM

It's a NASA HOOD not a naca hood. :attention:jumping::jumping::jumping:

Pontiacdaver 02-03-2014 08:18 AM

People who feel the need to correct someone on the NASA/NACA thing all the time should look at the awful grammar and spelling in their posts.

makinchips 02-03-2014 12:57 PM

That's funny I thought its a gto hood......

camerjeff 02-03-2014 01:49 PM

Standard on GTO's Available on G/A's and all other Lemans Body Styles, including the Safari's 73-75

makinchips 02-03-2014 03:11 PM

Funny thing is dad had a neighbor with a silver 74 or 75 lemans with a 400 4spd and a ta shaker scoop

77 Canamman 02-03-2014 06:39 PM

Unless it was a transplant, '74 was the last year for a 4 speed (either Saginaw, Muncie or BW ST10) in an A body.

makinchips 02-03-2014 06:53 PM

It was a sharp ride. I think it had rally's on it

rexs73gto 02-03-2014 07:53 PM

Those that correct those who are trying to show the correct way of calling things by there proper name are very petty. Now thank that !!!

455Grandville 02-03-2014 08:15 PM

I've bought many HO 455's over the phone that turned out to be garden variety station wagon 455s

So correcting someone who probably could care less (like me) about the correct spelling of a hood offered 41 years ago isn't petty? I've never taken sides on the NASA/NACA issue because the defenders of each are NEVER going to change the other's minds.

People in glass houses shouldn't throw stones.

Hey makinchips, welcome to the forums! Sorry, we sometimes get carried away but no one can say we aren't passionate about the 73-77 A-bodies.

Rex bought his 73 GTO brand new and has owned it ever since.

I would also love to see any old pics you may have of your Dad's 73.

Dave
