Help on 70-71 Clutch Pedal

Hey Guys.. I think I know this answer but will confirm through the board. 70-71 clutch pedal, was it the one that was same size as the brake pedal or the smaller one that is 2/3-3/4's the size of the brake pedal?? I think it is the smaller one but want to see what the board says.. thx

Norwood 02-09-2014 05:18 PM

same size

70RAlll 02-09-2014 05:35 PM

really ?? I wonder what year the 2nd set I have came from?? It is the exact same as the one with same size pedals, just clutch is smaller..Actually sort of like the smaller pedal better..but know your car is original so will go with that.. Did later years have a smaller pedal?? Anyway, thanks Craig..

I will post a pic of my pedals on Monday, so you can decide for yourself.

Bill, my parts book tells me that 73 was the change over year to the smaller clutch pedal but other sources point to 75 ...I'm sure others will chime in

No need to go thru the trouble of posting pics, I believe you.. then again, do post pics would like to see the rubber on your pedals. I have NOS rubber but want to make sure its the same as your originals.. as always ..thanks..

Parts book is correct on that one.......72 was the last year for matching pedal size on F-cars....

My 71 has the same size pedals on it. 73 was the first year for two different sizes

Norwood 02-09-2014 11:53 PM

As unbelievable as it may seem I was not sure about it.....

That is a pic of a later version, correct? The pedals are different sizes and the toe panel is the later style.

Trust me, it won't be long until we are all making up "facts" that never were! LOL

Norwood's picture is the correct early version with the correct pedal pads. I think the clutch pedal appears a little larger because it is closer to the camera (optical illusion). The later style clutch pedal is about 2/3 the size and is very noticable. I do agree that the toe panel looks to be a later one.

no...original everything 3rd week of July 1970 build. The pedals are the same size. The size may be an optical since the clutch pedal is higher than the brake, but they are the same. Remember I got this car in the fall of 1975 and I don't remember ever swapping any pedal stuff. So here we go boys.....

Now the screws holding the carpet gard...that's another story. Those are from ACE for sure....LOL Anyone have any originals?

Here's a pic of the toe panel I've found to be used in 70 -- notice the left side. Yours is a later build. If it's original, I wonder if it was a mid year change? It appears a couple of different sized screws have been used.

X2. That is the same one my 71 had (Dec built Van Nuys car). Mine was cracked so I first grabbed one out of a mid-70s bird at the U-pull yard and didn't realize it was different until I compared them. Found another yard with a 70 Camaro that had the correct one.

Norwood 02-10-2014 04:10 PM

ok who has one for sale or trade? mine broke a long time ago and I mean a long time ago this one is from my 79 Camaro, that's why I know its incorrect all including the down screws
