68 GTO Compressor Almost Touching Valve Cover
 

I'm putting my 68 GTO back together after a frame off. When I put the air conditioning belt on the compressor, the compressor is almost touching the valve cover. I used the correct air conditioning belt, bought a correct number and date belt from our host. It is about 58 1/2 inches in circumference. For the bracket the hooks to the head, I am using a bracket from a 69 GTO instead of the 68 bracket that bolts to the head through the head bolts for ease of installation. They are suppose to be interchangeable. Anyone have any ideas other than finding a longer belt?

order another belt 1/2 inch longer. if you go longer you may run out of adjustment.

When you change components, you may need to make adjustments in other areas. Follow advice, get longer belt advised. 1/2"?? The total will be divided by 2 and you will net 1/4" more adjustment. Is that enough?

When I ordered repro belts for my 69, none of them fit correctly, and the
A/C belt was so short it couldn't be put on at all. I sent them back and just used Gates belts
which fit perfectly.
