I'm guessing you made a typo, because I can find nothing about this on their site.

I do recall seeing it on the AG website. Essentially a beefed up M22 with AG parts, case, midplate, etc. and custom gear ratios to choose from.

The M23 is a dragrace option that has a thicker first gear and I think a replaceable gear on the cluster gear. I got one of the M22's with everything except that option but haven't finished the car yet-can't wait either dammit !

I had to dig around on their site to find it but yes there is such a thing I have talked to them just wanted to see if anyone here has run one for awhile and how its holding up. Talked to Nate at Autogear sounds like a good tranny but never hurts to ask around. They have been out for awhile diff ratios available and stronger straighter cut gears from Italy supposed to shift better with their side plate that has needle bearings in it. super case and steel mid plate and yes the cluster gears can be changed without replacing the whole cluster. Sounds like a direct bolt in except the driveshaft may have to be shortened 1" on some cars

I have the M22 Drag Special, which is the same as the one you're speaking of I believe.
[URL="http://www.5speeds.com/newm22.html"]http://www.5speeds.com/newm22.html[/
URL]

I opted for the wide ratio version with a 2.56/1.88/1.37/1.00 ratios, with a 3.90 rear gear.
So far so good, but I've only put 2500 easy miles on it.
The only bad thing about it, is that it's very quiet, unlike the original M22. I wish it was noisy.

Let's try that link again http://http://www.5speeds.com/newm22.html

Get out there and jump on that thing! Nate at AG told me that it should have that noise like the m22 because of the straighter cut gears o well as long as it holds up. I am also thinking of the wide ratio I have 3:31 rear gears. Like your car video, sounds like mine with open headers. Did you have to shorten your driveshaft to install the m23?

I just had a couple emails between myself and a AGE tech advisor, here's a neat tibit of info that's worth sharing;

Quote:

...we do produce the M23. It is a continuation of our M22-based
4speed; but optimized for todays crop of 500+HP applications. It offers
more than a dozen different ratios, and is comprised of Italian gearing
and synchronizers, with American castings. Each one is custom build for
the customer. ...
Additionally, we added more ratios than the original 9.
Essentially, you can pick any rato from the M22 Modular list and we can
re-create it within a couple decimal points.

The M23 uses a more aggressive 1st gear design, optimized for drag
racing, but still very suitable for road racing and street use. We
couple that with our modular cluster gear; which gives you more ratio
adjustability, and added strength in 2nd and 3rd gear. Lastly; we
install an inch and a half dia. steel thrust button in our Supercase
(instead of a 1" dia pin) for the countershaft pin to ride against.
This controls shaft seperation, backlash and spreads the loads across a
larger diameter at the front of the case. The end of this countershaft
pin is bolted to our iron midplate, essentially creating a "girdle" for
the bottom end. We also use 9310 steel gears on the countershaft drive.

Here is a video to the assembly of one we did for Spike TV's Musclecar
on the PowerBlock. The gentleman building it is Phil Hudson, with 40
years of experience for General Motors and New Process Gear building
test units and quality assurance inspections. He builds all of our
gearboxes.

I hope this helps!

I only have m22 super case. Be sure to get the 1st gear bushing with grooves cut in it for better lubrication. If it is only street driven I would get the roller bearing 1st. My 1st gear with a smooth bushing seized on my main shaft last week on a 1/4 mile run. It took a 40,000 ton press to remove it from the shaft! Going with a grooved bushing next. Autogear says roller bearing 1st flattens the roller bearings from drag racing.

AutoGear M22 wide-ratio. First ride since new engine build and it sounds like music.

Cool. I've been thinking about this transmission also instead of a 5 speed.

archerytony 04-07-2014 03:19 PM

They got right on it had it in 10 days

Sully 04-07-2014 03:49 PM

M 22 trans

Tony, could you elaborate on the gear ratios you chose and also cost?
Thanks much & enjoy,
Sully

Sorry I didn't see this sooner, I don't visit the street forum often.

Regardless, if you are mostly street I think you made a good choice. I had an Autogear m-22 based trans...supercase, iron mid plate, thicker gears, etc. I had it behind a 474 that makes 600 hp/TQ with a DFX Centerforce and 3.90s with drag radials. Street and strip. I use a old hurst ramrod vertigate shifter. Trans has held up well. I shift at 6200 and launch at 3600. I do powershift it at the track. The drag radials are not ideal for a strip manual but I wanted the trans to live so it gave me a little slip with the firm clutch. The power the engine was producing in a 3600 car was the ragged edge of the trans limit.

Good luck and have fun banging gears.
