The 7UP's on Turner Classic Movie Now!
10 pm on TCM The 7-Ups! The most? famous Pontiac Ventura?
|
Saw that, but I was overruled by a Big Bang Theory marathon on TBS. I've yet to see that movie.
|
that was a great movie, saw it in the theater when I was a kid and the chase scene was incredible on the big screen. Has to be the most famous Ventura and Bonneville in a movie that I'm aware of!
|
funny thing how that Pontiac has sounds just like the stang in Bullit.

Bill Hickman was the stunt driver, chosen and well respected by Steve McQueen in Bullit. Also seen in the 7-ups, as mentioned. He was a well respected pro stunt driver for years, and acted as well. He has some great facial expressions during his chase scenes....kind of a look of stoic horror. I flipped channels the other night, and just happened to hit the beginning of the chase scene in the 7-ups. Had to watch it, of course. Interesting to note that the Ventura did sound exactly like the Mustang soundtrack, except the Mustang appeared to have about a 10 speed gearbox, what with all the up-shifting, etc. Great stuff!

Love the Stang where he is on the interstate flying, then all of a sudden the driver double clutches and finds anotherr gear.
Must also had a 2 speed rear end......;o) |
At least it wasn't as bad as the Starsky and Hutch movie where they actually referred to the clutch and then we see the CB radio in front of the automatic floor shifter!
And back in the original series the Torino seemed to have both a manual trans AND an automatic depending on the scene.:D |

Here is the link to youtube for the full movie, can watch it in 720 hd if you have an HD monitor, but should look really good on any monitor at full screen https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=drdvdg_wQ_s Mark |
The chase is better than "Bullit", no 5 hubcaps! But since it doesnt have iconic 60's cars and Steve McQueen, it's overlooked.
When I saw the previews in fall '73, I was 12 and said like 'how could they trash such a new car!' I didn't see 'the 7-ups' until 1975 at a drive-in, when they showed 3rd-4th run movies. |
