Slower than I thought
1970 Firebird stock weight. 400 stroked to 462. Solid roller cam 267 272 630 lift. HP heads from SD performance flow 360 at .700. Similar to wide port edelbrocks. Victor intake with 1050 dominator. Turbo 400 with PTC 8 inch tight converter. 3.73 12 bolt. All the caltrac stuff. 6.91 is the best so far. Thought it would be faster. Thoughts?

Post all of your timeslip.

I agree. Something is way off. Post up the time slips so we can see what it's doing.

How much does your car weigh??
looks off everywhere. New combo? If so, I would cut the filter open and make sure everything is right and not chewing itself up. Then the regular stuff, first...timing, fuel delivery, if the car has setup for a time, make sure the brakes are not dragging.
Filter looks good. Good oil pressure. Timing at 36 6.91 twice. Timing at 32 6.97. 1/2 inch line Barry grant fuel pump. 7 lbs at the carb the whole run. Brakes not dragging. They were the first time out when it ran 7.44. Two different carbs and ran 6.90's. Also tried a Barry grant I borrowed from a friend. Seems to hook pretty good but runs out of steam about 6100. I thought that's where it would make power. I bought a Power-systems carb, but haven't gotten it. Thinking of buying a different cam.
Forgot to add. 10,5-1 compression.
60' looks pretty soft for the ET and MPH. The whole run looks soft for the combo. I'd start with the A/F ratio and make sure it's good. A wideband O2 sensor with a record feature is invaluable when tuning a carb. What's the LSA and ICL on the cam?
Sounds to me that it needs more converter and timming.
Are thows the edelbrock heads? GT. |
I don't have the cam card anymore. I bought it in the mid 80's when I was running a 455 with 614 heads. That engine in a 1970 trans am ran 7.00's.
Et matches the mph and the 60, for the most part...hum...
Tell me more about your converter. Where does it actually stall at?
Timing? The slip looks like a normal 10.90 street car pass. This looks a lot like my old combo, but I had less cam, head, carb, gear and converter. Its either something in the converter or your down on power, or both. My converter was the my issue, the top end went in another car and went 10.20's. Your combo should run that or better. |
At another look ya the 60 is weak. Thought it was 1.52.
Still anyway, something is off. Cam degree'd in correctly?
I'd bet that cam is WAY WRONG for those heads. But there's more at play. For sure
The heads are KRE HP's that SD performance ported. The converter is a PTC8th00300SS. It's their tightest 8 inch. It seems very tight. Starts to move a 1500 or so. Footbrakes to about 3500. I'm not sure how high it flashes. It seems to hold pretty well. I hit third maybe 100 feet from the lights. At least that's what it seems. I had a transmission specialties 10 inch converter in it when it ran 7.44. After that I changed the converter. Fixed the brakes and put del-a-lum busshings in the front control arms top and bottom.
I agree with everything so far. 60' times are way off, probably need more stall. That may come when you find out why its down on power. Needs more cam with more lift and make sure it's degreed correctly. I would definitely be cutting the filter open and taking a look.
What are you running for tires? Is there any spin? I would expect it to run a good 8 tenths quicker, depending on what it weighs, and be at least into the 1.30's in 60'. |
hasn't been asked yet, what are you running for exhaust?
header size, pipe size, mufflers? |
