Shocks for 68 Firebird

Took my car for a ride the other day and the rear felt VERY harsh. Granted the
rear has always been a tad stiff but this was horrible.
Tried to push down and rear bumper and would not budge.
Removed the Gabriel shocks to investigate and found the leaf springs worked very nicely without shocks installed. Tried to compress the Gabriel Ultra G shocks and one was locked
up solid and the other would only compress 3 inches before lockup.

These were only 2 years old and about 1500 miles.
Luckily I still had receipt from Autozone and they honored the limited warranty and
new units resolved issue.

What shocks are you running as I no longer trust the Gabriel units?
Yes the car sits a lot but this should not be the norm. The fronts feel
fine and were also replaced 2 years ago!!

Just like all parts I would rather by the right units(quality) then keep having
issues every so often.

I ran Sears front shocks on my 73 for about 3-4 years , but after each time at the track I had to go back to Sears & get a new set. When I'd pull the front up all the way to the stops while doing my hole shots the shocks would explode. They replaced them 5 times before they finally just gave me my money back & said there shocks must not be made right or there was a flaw in them. I went & bought a set of gas Monroe shocks for the car & they have been on there since. About 15 years or more.

I use Bilstein shocks on all my muscle cars.

The Bilsteins are very nice on my 68 Firebird with high rate springs

I now run Koni's. Took off Monroe's and it made a world of difference. Bilstein has an excellent shock also.
