Badger State Chapter POCI cruise to Wis. Dells
 

A handful (the usual handful) of Badger State Chapter POCI members are heading to the Dells this weekend.

We are staying at the Blackhawk Motel (original family owned since 1945!). http://www.blackhawkmotel.com/

Saturday morning we are heading to Camp Douglas, Wis., for a tour of a junkyard. My understanding is that it has been closed for years and opened in the '40s! The tour starts at 9AM Saturday.

Some sort of dinner plan is being put together for Saturday nite.

Weather depending we (well, at least Mrs. Engine-Ear and I) will be going to the Big Sky Drive In theater Saturday nite. http://www.bigskydrivein.com/

Presumably we will get breakfast Sunday morning and then things will break up.

Although this is a BSC/POCI event, any PY-er with a desire to hang out will be welcome.

This is a DYOC, as in Drive Your Old Car, event... hint hint.

Fifteen people (five of 'em were wives) spent their weekend (or part of it, anyway) staying at the Black Hawk Motel, walking thru Clark's Auto Salvage, having supper at Otto's Supper Club on Highway 16 and/or attending the impromptu POCI chapter club meeting. (The last item derailed the Big Sky Drive-In movie idea, but oh-well.)

Being so close to Camp Douglas, we saw jets taking off (FAST!), trains going by and cars returning to the Earth.

Looks like a good time! I love touring those old junkyards. Like finding lost treasure! Even if you don't take anything home, the excitement of wondering what's around the next corner is worth it. Was that a 71 LeMans sprint?

I do believe they are low production.....seem to be a craze for them lately.
What was the gentleman under the hood removing? Looks like maybe the coil assembly? Just curious...!

That's Todd...he was removing the Rochester 2GC on an 8.6:1 "420 E" 389... roughly the same as used for the 3x2 center carb.

That was a good find then!
When I get the old LeMans up and running, my wife and I will have to make a road trip up to your neck of the woods and check out your Darksider collection..........my heart still belongs to the land yacht's .......

Is that C.L. Chase salvage yard in Camp Douglas? I've never heard it called Clarks Auto Salvage. Very large yard and he runs a towing business so many autos are wrecks from back in the day. Very high on prices which is the reason why most cars are complete as they are after 40+ years. Its pretty hard to get out of there without spending $50 on just a few small trinkets.

Very cool! I stumbled upon a hidden salvage yard last fall with old cars buried in the woods. It was all hidden behind a tall fence along the main highway near Stevens Point. I stopped in and talked to the owner for a short time. He was real friendly and said he usually doesn't sell much but always entertains fair offers. He said he mainly had late 30's through early 60's and some late 70's to late 80's cars.
