What are your thoughts/ experiences with Comp Cam Endure X solid roller lifters?
Hi,
I am slowly finishing the grocery list for a 462 stroker that Willie Anderson has put together for me (short block), and I came across a NEW set of comp cam Endure X solid roller lifters for a very good deal. The motor is going to run SD KRE 295 cfm D-port heads and their Ol' faithful cam. Now I still need to verify but, I would be surprised if my block has oil restrictors installed in it. So my question is : What you guys think or have for experience with the Comp Cam Endure X Solid Roller lifters ( 859-16 ). I was actually going with the Crower hippo lifters but the Comp cam I found would be so cheap compared to the Crower that its got me thinking now. I know lots of Chevy guys complained that the Comp Cam Endure X lifters wouldn't last, spit bearings etc... Should I just go with Crower hippos or try the Endure X? Also would you run restricting push rods with the Endure X? I know some people here don't care about restricting the oil with a solid roller on the street. So yes I plan on running a Solid roller lifter on the Hydraulic roller Ol faithful. Thanks Peter |

I am certainly no expert but I chose the Crower Hippos for the new Stump Puller engine I'm building. I haven't built it yet but the Crowers are very nice and they get my vote. |
Hippos for me...
Crower Hippos on the solid cam in the TA, and on a hyd Old Faithful cam in the GTO. Next best to Isky Red Zones IMO .

The Crowers were the original idea, but the deal is very hard to pass, on the EndureX , its part of an estate sale, with other pontiac parts , after selling the extras the EndureX would be almost free, thats why im hesitant, But again the original idea was to use the Crower HIPPOs.

I'm trying the Endurex in the 565 for my street car. No restrictors either. Wanted to get plenty of oil up top for extended street driving. This was the advice from my engine builder. Only dyno time on them so far.

I have endure x with no restrictors with over 4000 miles on them and they work flawless. I pulled them out last winter when I swapped timing covers and wanted to make sure everything was fine. They are all perfect yet with zero wear.

thanks , thats good to know , obviously online we only hear about the horror stories and it made me a bit skeptical about the EndureX.
Do you run oil restrictors, or restricted pushrods? cheers |
I was told by the builder and comp that there was no reason to run restrictors. They are supposed to pass the same amount of oil to the springs and the rockers as a hydraulic roller.

We use Endurex in most builds. Zero issues over the last 10 years. Many with 500-plus HP and 20K street miles as well as track time. Unfortunately, there are no "offset" for the Pontiac from Comp, so we use Crower in those applications. When buying from a "reputable" parts source, there's not a WHOLE lot of difference in price.
Be VERY careful, though. I've seen two sets of 859-16 bought from Summitt that weren't "Endurex", they were the old non-oiling style. They bought the old stock and sell it not telling customers they aren't the "current level" parts. We buy them from Comp. If the link bars aren't removable, they're NOT "Endurex". The use of restrictors is not related to the lifters. The purpose is to "force feed" the mains and in turn, the rods, by limiting the amount to the top. With .060" restrictors, the oil to the top is plenty for the springs and rockers. Do it. Don't do it. Just be sure you understand WHY. FWIW Jim |
I've got the Endure-X lifters in my small-block Ford. They've worked great for over 6 years, about 10,000 street miles, and a few hundred drag and dyno passes. About .630" valve lift, shifting at 6800-7000. I had the transmission intermediate shaft snap during the 1-2 shift, and my tattle-tale tach said the motor zinged to 9100rpm - that was about 2.5 years ago, and they still work fine.
