Nice and good to see they didn't even wash it.... all original with original dirt and grime.

Is that the original 19,736 miles on it?

ron cozzo 11-24-2014 04:03 PM

Based on the condition I'm assuming it's been turned over 100,000.

Needs a good cleaning.

I just don't see the point of leaving a barn find just as filthy as you found it.

Nothing wrong with leaving it as-is and not restoring it, but wash it up some.

Neat car, great find.

Great photos!

Always like seeing these kinds of cars before they lose all their Originality (repaints, rechrome, and repro interiors).

Big Thanks for sharing!

PS, what was this event and was the car for sale??

ron cozzo 11-24-2014 04:32 PM

The event was the Muscle Car and Corvette Nationals, in Chicago this past weekend. Google MCACN. 500+ cars, all nice, some of the rarest and best. It was humbling.

The car was not for sale. I talked to the owner a bit, young guy, into cars because his dad has some. Sounded like he was going to drive it, not restore it.

It seems that it still retains all the OEM Vacuum linkage. Did you happen to see the black painted steel vacuum tank inside the RH fender?

It looks like the vacuum hose is headed over in that direction?

It looks like it's hiding there behind the aftermarket overflow bottle. And it looks engine blue.

Take note on the hood pad brace , held in place with coarse screws in each end . As i have stated and been told wrong . The pad does still use the metal clips , then the brace , then the coarse screws go through everything .

Another example of the OEM hood pad and hardware on a 64 GTO.

Still in the Original Owners garage!

Chrisp, those coarse screws still have a hex head, correct? But no flange. I think the same type screws were used for the defectors on the back up lights.

The picture with the alternator, I always thought the zone office screwed up and installed the alternator (after they had incorrectly clocked it due to some possible service issue).

But I see this 64 GTO also has the power terminal facing downward towards the valve cover.

I can tell you what happens after you install ribbed fin Mickey Thompson aluminum valve covers and the rubber boot fails.

It may not be clocked right when I install the stock alternator on the car again vs the High Output one, but the terminal is going up away from the valve cover. That deal was $$$ in the 60s.

ps Thanks for the great pics.

I also see that the tripower system has been disconnected for a long time. (No vacuum pipe to the rear carb diaphragm).

Tom, as an engineer, I agree with you about keeping the Batt terminal away from the valve cover. Mine is clocked 90 degrees clockwise. Not correct intentionally.

Tom Vaught 11-24-2014 09:54 PM

Thanks Ron, I suppose that if your 64 GTO was hit in the front and the alternator was forced back to the valve cover there is a chance that the bat terminal might not ground.

Bad enough to be in a accident, let's say, without the car burning all of the wiring off it.

Yes hex head , i believe the rev. lights use a cutting thread with a score down the threads , but have seen them with 2 types like the hood pad bolts that i have seen use a very course thread with no score similar to a course wood screw . The metal pad clips are just intended to hold the lightweight pan material , but when the steel retainer plate is used the clips may come off , that is my opinion why the bolts were added . Maybe there was a service bulletin to add them to prevent the retainer from coming off , could do some serious damage for those not using the bolts .

Looks like it might have had a for sale sign taped to the driver's door long ago.
