Tire Question
I have to buy new tires for my 65 GTO convertible in stock form. I have original 14x6 Rally Is and am going with radial red line Coker BFG Silvertown. Question is; Coker sales recommended 215 70 R 14. Does it make sense to go to 225 70 R14? If so what is the advantage? Will 225 fit my 6x14 rims? Thanks

225's are a little taller. Posibly closer to height of original tires. They should fit nicely on a 6" wide wheel.

I use the BFG 225 70 R 14's on my '64 GTO. They fit well in the wheel wells. Stock 14 X 6 rims are ideal for this size. I don't understand why anyone would use 215's.

Tire Question
Thank you for the replies, helps with my decision, 225 it is!

What Dick said. I've been running 225/70/14 tires on 14x6 wheels on these cars for decades. They look good and work well. The 215 series are stock size, but look anemic on these cars, IMO.

Under the old tire sizing system I once had some big 9.something under a 64 GTO convertible on the original wheels. Had no clearance problems.

I ran some 205-"75"-14 radial tires on a 66 and they looked very close to OEM size in height and width.
