How good will 255/40ZR17 tires fit on a 72 Bird?

depends on suspension, wheel BS etc.

Its a small tire. It come out to 25.03" tall. So unless the car is lowered some it'll look funky.

tires are free, that's why I'm checking. stock suspension 72 T/A.

It'll look decent... Would look better dropped a little with that size though.

On the front they'll look ok, but the back will look to small. I have a 26" tall rear tire on mine and it still looks a little small for me.

But free tires are always the right size :D Post up some pics of the new shoes when you get them on!

I have 275/40xZR17 on my Gramma's 75 Firebird with the Year One 17" Rally wheels. Too small of a tire for the wheel well. Should have gone with a 45 or 50 series tire. Needs more sidewall to fill the space.

nj, The firebird looks great. just need a little more funds for the rims, and a sale would be nice! :-) I will be going with the Honeycombs.

My Grandmother bought the car new in 1975. It has 78,000 miles on it now.

We won the set of Year One 17" Rallys in their write-in contest a few years back. Though I would have much rather had the Honeycombs, I was not about to turn them down.

Funny thing was that it took them weeks to get me to accept them. I kept hanging up on them when they called. Now, who in their right mind is gonna believe someone who calls you out of the blue and tells you you just won a free set of wheels?

Yeah those look way to small.

Drop it? Holy cow!! It already looks like you couldn't fit mouse farts under there. Get em' too low and you couldn't even drive the thing around here in AZ mountain country with steep driveways, hills, and odd angle approaches just to get around, makes that a pain in the rump to cruise around, not to mention the AZ speed bumps on steroids around here. I even have stock ride height cars here that scrape if I'm not careful.

Personally I'd rather have more sidewall on the tire to fill the void. Better ride quality and acceptable ground clearance. I never jumped on the rubberband tire bandwagon, but I understand the appeal, and free is always good. ;)
