1998 Trans Am with a Butler Performance 462 Pontiac Motor
 

This is my 1998 Trans Am that I am installing a 462 Pontiac motor along with a 4L80E.

I used a BMR turbo k member that utilized pedestal mounts. I used a combination of their mount and mine to make it work.

Had to lower the steering rack about an inch to clear the oil pan. Guess I'm going to have to get a bump steer kit to straighten the rack geometry out.

This is pretty cool! Should really move when its done!

I installed my QA1 shocks and springs. UMI upper and lower control arms.

That ought to be a mover when you get it done.

I finally made my steering shaft. Since I had to lower the steering rack, the shaft would not reach the rack. So I made my own. It is made from the ends from the 4th gen and the telescopic part from an Astro van.

I am going to use a low profile air plenum, then into air filters.

How is distributor access? Can you get the cap off?
The rule of thumb for suspension design is the steering tie rods should run parallel to the lower control arm throughout the suspension's travel to minimize bump steer.

Distributor cap can be removed with no real problem. There is more room there than you would think.

As far as the steering rack goes, I lowered the rack about 1 inch. Hopefully the adjustable bump steer kit will help.

I was thinking about doing this type of a swap, the V6 bodies are plentiful, affordable, and still in pretty good condition.

What kind of rear are you planning to use?

Any chassis stiffening/bracing?

Awesome! You just saved me from posting a new thread asking about a Pontiac engine in a late model. I've been pondering it for quite some time. Whenever I finally get started on this project, I will have a ton of questions. Mine will be a well-built 400 street car (hoping to clear 500 horse) mated to a T-56. I hope you don't mind me bothering you and sending a couple of messages. I'll try to keep it to a minimum. Your thread and pics have answered many of my questions already & I am subscribed.
