Door lock knob
 

Anyone know if there is a trim ring for the door lock pull knob maybe goes in the hole where the push rod sticks through ? thought there may be an insert that I might be missing.

I think there is a clear plastic trim ring. I would have to look at my car to be sure.
I just did one better than that. I looked at the online catalog and there is a clear plastic grommet. Part # RPI328

PY has them in their catalog. Page 27, part number RPI328. As the listing says.... put them in boiling water for a few seconds two soften them up, then install. Make sure you take the pull knob off. I watched a guy try to install the grommet with it still screwed on. What a laugh that was.

They are brittle and if you don't soften them up they will break. Some of us have found that out the hard way. I did years ago with my 1st GTO. Dealer never said anything about softening them up.

I popped mine right in but, I do live in the deep south and it was probably in the 90s with an 80% humidity so it was naturally softened.:D

Good call on the hot water treatment before assembly, up here in Michigan they break in the winter or summer. (lol...) Ask me how I know, my 66 took two sets.

Have them send you a free catalog. Way better than one online you can't get to, or take with you to shows, or better yet.... out having coffee and want something to look thru. ;)

Clean out the hole 1st. with file , it too much paint build up it will not fit & break .

The re-pops suc! plain & simple.
 

The oem were a tad thicker/HD and somewhat pliable.
I have to replace mine almost every season.
One long day in the summer sun and these POS just dry out & crack.
I'm considering switching out to the polished SS,
I know their not correct on the '66 but at this point WTH.

Jeff, I think you're on to something. 22 years ago, when I re-did the interior on my '67 GTO, I installed '66 window cranks and a '65 interior rear view mirror. Got tired of the junk plastic knobs falling off and the plastic mounted 'safety' mirror flopping around. While not as 'safe', the chrome knobs and metal mounted mirror sure work a whole lot better day to day!!
