paint markings/colors

I am in the process of preparing my 66 GTO for the GTOAA show in Columbus, In. this summer and I am looking for info on all the paint markings used by the factory when the cars were assembled. I know there were markings on the firewall, driveshaft, steering and suspension parts but I don't know exactly where or if a specific color was used. None of the books I have give this info. I also need to know what the correct finish for the gas tank straps is.

The crayon markings varied by final assembly location, shift and even specific operator. The best thing would be to note what was on your car originally and replicate that exactly when going back together.

Drive shaft stripes (as an assembly aid) should be well known and vary based on trans type. I believe they are covered in Eric White's book (which I highly recommend). If not, we have them in the PMD inspection book.

My gas tank straps were silver in color ('65 model year).
