repo hood emblem holes?

I bought a new repo hood and it does not have the holes for the emblem, was this a mistake or did mine not get punched out?

Now that its painted how would I drill the holes without chipping the paint.

Anyone have a measurement from the lower tip of the emblem to the point of the hood?

Man the search function is awesome, found the measurment just need to know what would be the best way to procced without messing up the paint.

Hate it when stuff like this happens, should have caught it before paint....doh!

Start with 1/8" holes. Work up from there. Sometimes I drill through a layer of masking tape to minimize the risk of tearing up the paint. Script holes are more critical, you've got a big emblem to cover it, so a touch of primer around the edges can be done.

I think you're supposed to tape them up and then drill. This should help prevent chipping. Also the emblem will cover the holes by quite a bit so any touch up should not be visible.

Troy, try and forgo the hood emblem for a while and see how you and others like it. I had a 65 GTO hood on my 66 Tempest Custom, with added 66 GTO grills, and I actually thought it looked better without the emblem. But that's me. Tho if yours is to be show correct, forget what I said. ;)

One thing I hate with the emblem is the duster gets caught in it, as does polishing cloths and rags when you wipe down the hood.

65s. do not use the hood arrow as it is in the header panel , you may also have to drill the 2 larger holes underneath for the pal nuts if not there , be sure to paint inside the holes as rust will start if not done . Use some 3M wide blue tape & nice sharp drill bits as to not create heat and burn the paint . Be aware that the repo. hood will only accept the repo. scoop insert as well , unless you get lucky & it fits .

I like having the emblem on my '67. That is what I push down on with the palm of my hand to latch my hood so no fingerprints on the paint.
