Ames Performance web server - down temorarily for upgrades
 

This weekend we'll be upgrading our server to a much faster and more dependable unit. This, most likely, will cause interruptions in connecting with our database which will mean online orders will, periodically, not be working. Phone ordering will however be possible as we will have people taking orders from 9am to 6pm EST. Thank you all for your understanding as we continue to make improvements to enhance customer service.

Looks like it's official. Our web server is currently down for upgrades. Thank you for your understanding and remember - if you need to place an order, we have guys working from 9am to 6pm today on the phones. I just placed an order at a little after 7:00 pm and it worked fine.

Do you guys actually run and maintain your own hardware ? I'd be shocked that one wouldn't host their apps on a cloud based infrastructure. Yes, I'm a cloud computing expert, but aside from getting into all of the details of capabilities, but simple change from capital expense to 'pay by the drink' operational expense would seem compelling enough. The only ones I typicall see that are still hesitant are where data privacy concerns exist.

Thank God I am retired and don't have to do this type stuff anymore!

Not sure where to ask but seeing we have an Ames staff member here, here it goes.

When we order parts we know we could get thru PY and didn't find in Ames' catalog, how can we make sure we can get those parts, or apparel... as in Tee shirts and other clothing PY carried? I'm sure all of that isn't getting tossed in the trash.

In other words, if we find something in PY's last catalog and not in Ames' catalog, how can we order it? I'm sure others want to know too.

Ames has all our part numbers, stock and information about such parts. I would think you would need to place that order on the phone since those items have not been integrated into their system yet. They also have not received the inventory and it's going to be quite a task to do so. I would think it would be 2-3 weeks minimum.

However, we put a LOT of PY inventory in the PY trailer which will be at Charlotte and Carlisle. So You'll still be able to purchase these items at these shows if it turns out to be convenient for you.

Hi JIm
We do host our own web server and operating system. Cloud is something to consider again we have been hesitant due to security purposes. I think as time goes on and more companies are using it this will set our minds at ease and may reconsider. It feels safe right now having control of it in house. Thanks for the suggestions.
