Wanted!!! 1978 Y-84 4sp Trans Am
Wanted!!! 1978 Y-84 4sp Trans Am.
I am looking for a premium specimen, Y-84, 4sp TA. It needs to be a late build with the Fisher tops, not Hurst, have its' original driveline and be done well or a really nice survivor. No mods and no problems. I want a stock/correct, 4sp, big hatch Y-84 car. For the right car, I am willing to pay current market (which is a little nuts in my opinion), that means good money! IF YOU HAVE THIS CAR AND NOT REALLY THINKING ABOUT SELLING, PLEASE REACH OUT TO ME. as a heads up, I have no interest in 77 or 79 cars, despite their similarity. |
You don't see them very often. These guys claim to have one. I'd be very leery buying from a dealer but appears to be a nice car.

Very questionable sellers! Everything is overpriced

Nice looking car. Seems to sit kind of high. Needs work under the hood to match the rest of the car. Engine color seems way off.

The car they have is an automatic. I am familiar with them, and yes they retail the cars $$$ wise, they get good ones and seem to know them well.
What I want is the 4 sp, Y-84...1978 only. |
78 Y-84
Um.. Good Luck. I wanted a 78 Y84 4sp years ago for the only reason is that I liked the Fisher T-Top's better than the hurst hatches on the Y-82's. All the while not knowing how rare they are. In 15+ Years of Looking I have only seen two Y84 4sp's. One was on e-bay about 8 years ago. It was restored (but not a show winner) and had the Camel interior. The other was a Black/Black 4 sp that was restored to a concourse condition through Restore a muscle car about 3-4 years ago. They currently have a Y84 automatic car that needs resto. Also NPD supposedly has the first 78 Y84 built but I can't remember if it is a 4sp or auto. :usa2:

There is a pretty decent looking one on San Francisco craigslist presently. Price is around $17,000.

That is the one. Now I see it is not a Y 84 at all. Sorry.

Currently on Reno, Nevada Craigslist is an ad for a '78 T/A that looks to be a Y-84 with T-tops and 4-speed trans but is not advertised as a Y-84 so I am not sure. Might want to take a look though.
