are you going to jamb it, assemble it, and then spray the entire car together? This is the method that I think I will be going with.

Yes, and its because I think that Base/Clear makes these cars look too plastic and too shiny.

Looks great, Don. Remember when we did my '67 in PPG single stage? That was 1993, and it still looks pretty good....I agree with the single stage. Haven't seen a base/clear system yet that didn't peel after 20 years, and that's not good enough for me. The 30 year old single stage on my '65 even looks presentable....try that with a base/clear system on a street driven car.

Did a 65 Lemans vert in the same PPG single stage Concept in Montero Red in my garage. Only issue I had was being that I had was I could not get the outside panels to match what I did in the jams and under trunk lid since I did those on a different day with different temps, humidity, gun pressure, etc. Not a fault of the paint though! Agree with the results of the single stage PPG looking deeper and more like the original lacquer. Best of luck you'll love the results!

Concept is a excellent choice for a solid color, especially a red like you are using.

Your '65 looks real nice!
After the jambs were painted on mine, I wasnt sure I had the right color because it looks like a "Brownish Red" and not the deep red I remember. Sure enough, the color changes depending if there is light on it or not.

I am currently doing the body work and paint on the '62 Catalina featured in the movie "Selma". After skinning it down to bare metal and completing the body work, I applied PPG DPLF90, followed by two coats of K38 to get everything leveled out. The color coat is the Aquamarine in PPG Concept DCC Single Stage.

I hope I have finally figured out the optimal settings to avoid the mottling and cloudiness that has plagued me up until now. The P-sheet recommends 2 wet coats, but that resulted in absolutely awful mottling even after setting the gun to get a good spray-out.

Am I alone in having this issue with PPG Concept? I welcome any advice and suggestions.

What tip size are you using? My guy used a 1.3 tip
What Reducer ? I believe we used DX91. (There are I believe 3 different types of reducer with different mixing ratios)
Two coats were applied with a pre coat to give the paint something to hold onto.

I'm using DT870 reducer and DCX61 hardener through a 1.4 tip. I tried doing what you did with the light starter coat and two wet coats following, but that gave me the mottled appearance even when making fairly quick passes 6-8 inches off the surface. What seems to work better now is to shoot several light coats waiting 5-10 minutes in between. It gives a fairly glossy finish with just a small amount of texture (not orange peel).

Try some DT880 and see how it lays down. On the last coat add another 10% of 880.
