1968 Intake Condition Questions
 

Hello guys,
The original manifold has some pitting on the underside of the cooling water passage.
I don't see any rust through. The inside of the leg looks pretty good.
Should I be concerned?
Can I fill with a good epoxy?
Should I replace it? ( I really want to keep the original one on the motor)

If you epoxy it it should be fine.

Clean the intake real good, sand/media blast it then use a good 2 part epoxy the same way you would use bondo & smooth it out with some sand paper then paint it & it will be ok.

Since it's the bottom side of the intake & no one will see it I'd blast it, paint it & forget about it.

IF it ever starts leaking coolant (unlikely) then you can deal with it.

Blast it & paint it!

It's sand cast iron - it's uneven by nature.

Thanks guys. Done. It's blasted, sprayed and on the motor.

Talking about instant flash rust after blasting it. I used phosphoric acid to treat the flash rust and then sprayed it with epoxy primer until I get some Pontiac Blue.

The mock up is going well. It's helping consolidate all the engine parts instead of having them scattered all over the shop. I'll get serious with the engine resto after I finish the body work.
