69 GTO rear spring spacer WHY?

If I could figure out how to send a picture I would.
My 69 GTO rear coil springs that came with the car when I bought it have 3 inch spacers under the factory height rear springs.
I just bought a new set of coil springs, the height is the same as the old set but the new springs have larger diameter wire for the coils.
The cars stance was perfect almost level.
Any one ever see this type of set up before?
And if you know how to up load pics to this new site, please let me know, I was able to do it before the take over.

3 INCHES?? The old ones were wrong, or sacked. Put in the new springs with just the rubber isolators and see where it sits, you should be fine.

Hope that you are right, I will be trying that this week, and there is a difference in spring pressure just pushing down on them, although the height is about the same and the coil dia. on the new set is larger.

spacer

He said his car came with spacers, mine had them front and rear that was common in the Detroit area back in the 60's early 70's

I am the 3rd owner of this car and have had 3 other [1 68 GTO and 2 69 GTO's] total of 4 in my life time and I have never seen a spacer for the rear coil springs.
If it's true that was done some times by the factory, why?

Not factory installed

well I took out the spacers and installed the new factory coil springs from PY [bought last year] and I don't need no stinkin spacers.
I did a before and after vehicle height measurement and it's all the same.
The old and new springs were the same unsprung height, but the coil dia. on the new springs was just a little larger and by just pushing down on them was a big difference too.
