Help! Need photo of muncie 4 speed linkage setup

I have an M21 Muncie on a 1969 GTO and it doesnt want to come out of reverse all the way and I think the guy that installed the tranny and shifter might have got the linkage messed up on the reverse rod because it shifts okay but you have to work it to get it out of reverse or I can turn the collar on the steering column because of the reverse lock out rod locking the steering column but Id like to get this fixed.Any help would be much appreciated if someone can post a photo of the linkage on the tranny. Thanks

I don't have any pictures handy but step one would be to make sure your shifter is aligned correctly. there's a hole on the side of it that you should be able to slide an allen wrench or drill bit into when it's in neutral that should go through the shifter body and all three shift arms. (see alignment tool in the diagram) If your reverse arm isn't centered with the rest of them, it could be binding and causing your issue. I'd start there.

Ive already done that. The mechanic here thinks the shifter needs rebuilt so it will pull it all the way back out of reverse. It shifts fine so far just wont pull it all the back out of reverse. Thanks

If the reverse lever doesn't 'pull it all the way back out of reverse' then it's not adjusted correctly?

I'm with John, it sounds like the lever rod is not adjusted properly. Another possibility considering your reference to rotating the column with the lock out helping is that you've got a problem with the linkage binding somewhere between the column and the tranny. Disconnect that rod linkage and see if it eliminates the problem. Do you have aftermarket headers on the car? If so, maybe the rods hitting the top of the header or rubbing on it when it tries to rotate the column into park when you're going into reverse?

I guess another possibility is the rods installed wrong, or mismatched rods rubbing. Here's a few more pictures I dug up

Thanks everbody.Like I said he lined them up with the 1/4 pin but what peter is showing me in photos is that mine is correct but the longer rod I believe is 1st gear has the trunion style that hangs below like the 3rd-4th shift rod and Im wondering if that could be holding it up some.I ordered the correct one and the mechanic said when installing it that it should have the other style trunion. This was all sent in a kit along with the bigger diameter 3/8 rods for 1970 on up 4-speeds which they said they dont make the 1969 only 5/16 rods anymore since they had trouble with them bending.Ill see after chenging that trunion that goes straight in instead of hanging below. Thanks everone

I was mixed up.The one I said was 1st gear rod is the 3-4th gear rod

No headers on car and we checked and nothing is binding up

Damn Pete, those are pretty! Is that some kind of aftermarket rubber grommet on the shift arm holes for the rods? I haven't redone my shifter yet but I seem to recall that the rubber looked like it was injected and bonded to the metal and didn't look like there would be room to put a grommet in there. As in, if they are separate rubber grommets now, did you need to drill the holes open deeper to accommodate them?

GM part # 1234418

Those are the GM grommets part # 1234418. Once the original Hurst vulcanized rubber falls off or gets brittle over time GM used to offer a service part to go in there. There is no drilling or modifications needed to the lever(s) other than to thoroughly scrape off/ clean all of the original rubber.
