Dash bezel replacement

I'm wanting to change out the dash bezel on the 69 GTO, but having problems removing the light switch. How do you remove the headlight knob and stem from the switch?

Also how do you remove the cigar lighter housing? I have the radio removed and think I know how to remove the windshield wiper switch. Just having problems with the headlight switch, and cigar lighter. Unfortunately the wood grain on the bezel is fine, it's the chrome that has yellowed and very unsightly. Would any of the remove/replace procedures be in the 1969 Fisher Body Manual? Any advise is greatly appreciated.
Thanks.

You need to reach around to the backside of the headlight switch. There is a button on the top side. Press the button and pull the knob at the same time. The knob with stem should come out. After that un-screw the bezel from the front side.

The lighter screws together from front to back. Hold the front side and un-screw the backside.

Hope that helps.

Correct. One other point regarding the headlamp button - it is spring-loaded. you'll find this via touch and you'll know you found the button when you touch it. :D

citrusz-

Thanks for the reply. Everything worked out great! Now if I can just figure a way to remove the A/C center vent air defuser without removing the dash I'll be a happy camper. :)

Thanks 68gtoMN. Found the button no problem! This is what I love about this site, there is always great advise from folks who have a wealth of knowledge. As always I did a search first to see if the question had been asked before and to my suprise nothing showed up in the search. Thanks again for the help!!

The replacement instrument cluster housings for 70-72 do not come with the GTO dash inserts. I had to buy the adhesive wood grain for the top secion and the engine turning inserts for the bottom of the bezel for my 70. Your 69 is different, so perhaps best to call and ask what else you might need, if anything, besides the instrument cluster housing.

Happy to help - it's what the hobby is about. Everyone learns something new when playing with their cars, no matter how long they have been working on them. :) Kurt
