GT37 rubber floor mat info needed
Does anyone reproduce the rubber floor covering used in poverty applications?
Lots of carpets available but seems no rubber/vinyl flooring . And..... I need it in gold :( |
Hens teeth...no one makes and have not seen a set survive. In gold probably more impossible?
The parody cloth is also very hard to find in any condition. Get-37 interior is a tough one to get as a whole. Door panels, headliner, etc. Hard to make a poor mans GTO stock.... |
Someone had suggested to me that the mat was being reproduced, though I have no other info.

you can find it...it'll probabaly cost a couple grand for NOS...they are so rare, they are in high demand...there where some super cars that used them and those guys have driven up the price.
the repop stuff is a joke...its just a mess..its hard rubber that doesnt fit and is absolutely not like anything GM made..i have one..its so bad...i am p!ssed..it was expensive and is just absolute junk..Helen Keller could see it wont fit...i slipped it in and lost my mind for a couple days...then heres the good part...its ripping by just sitting around...its so thick and stiff..just moving it around..it was a cool day in the fall and thats all it took..cold and stiff..it became brittle..where its slotted for the seat track mount..it just started tearing..ive done nothing to make it happen..but...its just junk..id start cussing but would prob get banned...it makes me so mad never saw a GT37 with rubber,,,i thought carpet was part of the package..but id like some more info...do you have a build sheet or the PHS is it noted somewhere on them?? Do you have pics of it in the car? just really curios..i have a Baja GT with a gold interior...i want to change colors..but if my car came like that..i wouldnt..lol.. i know 4 door stuff works..the Yenko Nova guys have posted somewhere what it takes to make it work..i read somewhere a 4 door chevelle pad works in a 2 door.. ive seen many 4 door chevelle 300s with rubber and F85s too..never ever saw a rubber mat in a Pontiac...not even an early tempest....i owned a 64 F85 2 door post with a red interior...and it had a red speckled mat...super cool...and ive owned 3 novas with rubber mats.. |
Very very hard to find. After searching for years (was in yards a good 250 days out of the year for over a decade), also examined several nos Nova and pickup vinyl floor sections I had picked up from numerous dealership buyouts... never any nos '68-72 Abody sections, though :(
After basically searching to Hell and back, stumbled onto a nice pair for one of my keepers. Crazy thing is: years ago, in my HO GT-37, after finally finding those replacement vinyl sections, I was in the garage pulling the seats to measure them for nos fabric reupholstery. As i removed the bench seat, there was glimpses of the original vinyl flooring under where the seat tracks had been bolted. The original owner had used a local trim shop install carpet. This shop took loose 80-20 loop carpet with a very fine gauze like backing and GLUED it with contact cement onto the original vinyl flooring. It was a surprise, but was an absolute nightmare to remove from the original vinyl sections. As far as styles, there are actually two different style grain structure vinyl flooring for '68-72 base A bodys. part numbers are also molded in on a small flat pad by where the front seatbelt retractor bolts in. From what I've noted there is basket weave style vinyl flooring, and a pebble grain that looks more like "melted" small pieces of gravel. '71's along with the '72 2door post LeMans had the latter style. Out of '70 Chevelle 300's and late '70 T-37's I've run across the basket weave style. |
It's my understanding that carpet was not part of the GT-37 package. It was an extra-cost option. If your PHS doesn't show the B30 Custom Carpets (UPC 524) then you got the rubber mat floor covering.
My GT-37's PHS lists the optional Custom Carpets (thankfully.) |
This is the list I have of standard T-37 (GT-37) items that were used to keep the cost down. Sure I'm missing some. Wasn't a base T-37 GM's lowest price A-Body in 71?.
Vinyl floor mat (carpeting optional) Vinyl seats with cloth inserts (full vinyl seats optional) Unique door panels different from Lemans, Lemans Sport, and GTO (71) Unique headliner/sail panel material. Tail lights without fins (71 thing) No Wheel well or rocker moldings (optional) Non - retractable wipers (different motor) retractable extra No top-rear fender moldings or hood molding. No fake louvers on fenders. No option for bucket seats or console. 6 cylinder standard. |
The '70 Tempest 4-dr sedan I just bought has the gold rubber floor still and it was also ordered with front and rear gold floor mats that are still with the car.

My '70 T-37 still had most of it's green vinyl flooring in it when it got to me. It was too damaged to even try to save. It had the pebble type grain on it.
Since my goal was to build it into a stock appearing race car I was going to just put carpeting in anyway because it's lighter than the mat. |

Carpet was optional - Code B30.

as marxjunk stated, it's reproduced. I exchanged PM's with a guy several years ago, who said ACC has it. But you have to specifically ask for it. It doesn't have the heel pad like originals. no idea if ACC still has it. I've been hoarding (or trying to) rubber floor pieces for years.

by the way..the repop is not rubber..its rigid plastic..not even close to rubber...not one bit does it even resemble plastic....yes..im still p!ssed
lets put it like this...you should see the box it came in..it was huge...it was basically folded in half along the hump bulge and shoved in a box..theres no way it could be folded anywhere else its so hard |

Mike,
Yeah, it's my 4-door GT-37. It has it's original factory 400/TH400 drivetrain along with PS & PDB. I added my old 15x7 Rally II's and Goodyear Eagle ST's for looks. Dennis |
