What oil you running and what type of sender & where is it located?

Valvoline ZR 50w I firget on the sending unit lines I think close to the headers. not sure what name brand sending unit is.

I meant elec or mech gauge?

Usually up next to dist is most accurate location & I personally like mech gauges over elec

Even 5 psi will keep bearings afloat at hot idle, the issue is if the pressure comes up fast enough as the motor revs up, 8 to 10 psi per 1000 rpm to be on the safe side of spinning bearings.

Anyone besides me think that's terrible for a 50-weight oil? The pressures listed are fine...for 10W30. Fifty-weight is another story.

What oil pump? What are the bearing clearances? Any indication of excess oil at the rockers?

50wt at cold start up should put up a pretty big number at idle.

I run about 12 psi at hot idle (700rpm) and 40-60 during cruise around 2000rpm. 10w30 with zddp additive.

I would think a 50 weight would show more pressure.

Your numbers are exactly how mine behaves using 20W50 Valvoline racing oil. I've found that different viscocities of oil don't affect my pressure dramatically. Increasing my idle got me from 5 psi at idle to 20. (15 when very hot or getting off the freeway.)

As others have said before, that's fine. You could pull the engine, get in there and investigate, but there's really no need to.

The Factory service manual says the engine should make rated pressure by 2600 RPM.
The factory warning light came on @ 5-7 PSI. You're good.

At idle that would be right in line with the old 10psi per 1000rpm wouldn't it...........
