"Doc Watson"
In 2010, Mr Watson attended the Muscle Car and Corvette Nationals in Rosemont, Illinois. The Parade of Hurst cars which included his personal 1972 Hurst Pontiac Grand Prix SSJ was my highlight of the event. To see one of my favorite musclecars of all (Hurst SSJ), and meet the legendary Jack "Doc" Watson is a memory I will cherish 4ever. Rest in peace Doc.

Several years ago he got word of our SSJs down here in Tampa and ended up calling me to talk about them. I wasn't home at the time, but I did return his call the following Monday.
We talked for about an hour, or I should say he talked for about 50 of those minutes while I could barely get a word in, but I didn't care as it was a thrill to listen to his stories about Hurst, The Jaws of Life, the Hurst cars, and his career. Apparently he has or had a stash of prototype Hurst cars from back in the day and he mentioned something about some Hurst SSJ convertibles stored away but I couldn't get him to tell me much more. Somewhere in Arizona or Utah, I can't recall. An honor to talk to him and one of the last with such an amazing career during the best era in automotive history. RIP, Doc! |

...a few years ago I met Doc at his office near Flint Mi....HURST threw a BIG party at his place and I was invited...I had purchased 3 HURST Challengers and they were displaying the new model...Linda Vaughn was there, lots of HURST dignitaries etc etc, quite an event...Doc and Linda autographed my cars
...a couple of years ago I got to meet and talk we Doc once again at the Linda Vaughn Roast/birthday party at the Lucas Oil Mansion in Indy...we talked a long while at the bar, he was promoting the new LV1 Camaro along with Linda and wasn't speaking the most kindly of his arrangement with HURST...maybe it was just a bad day, but he wasn't the most pleasant when speaking of HURST...we spoke for a long time and then looked at the LV1 Camaro outside... He was called away and that was my experience with him...all my conversations with him were pleasant and informative, he still had the desire to develope and produce new products...amazing stories |
