KYB Shocks, WTF!!
 

Two week ago I decided to replace my worn out Monroe shocks on my 67 GP. Decided to go with KYB Gas shocks since I had good luck with them on my 67 GTO. Installation wasn't too bad. The rears went on easily, the front was another story. First of all they would not line up to mount the bottom to the lower control arm. I had to slot them in order for the bolts to line up. Ride was firm but rather nice and really tightened thing up a bit. I wasn't floating all over the road any more. the other night I decided to change the oil in the GP. while underneath I noticed on the passenger side the bushing had pulled completely out of the shock at the bottom, and on the driver side the bushing was half way out! What the heck gives??? I have a set on the front of my 67 GTO with no issues at all. Has anyone else seen this. Very strange and cannot figure out why. pictures are attached.

The brand of shock shouldn't matter. The bar should be centered in the bottom bushing. Check to see if you have a problem with the lower control arm or it's bushings. Or the top mounting hole for the shock.

Thanks for the info. I checked all that and it seemed ok. The lower control arm bushings are in good condition. I would think if they were that bad that the lower control are would move back and forth enough to push out the shock grommets that I would feel that in the steering or handling of the car. SummitRacing is sending me new ones. Maybe the batch was bad?

Does KYB recommend rotating your shocks periodically?

The shocks are binding due to being off-center as mounted. They are bearing unevenly on one side of the mount and pushing the bushing out. Wrong shocks maybe since you had to slot them?

Have you or did you compare them to the old shocks that came out to make sure they looked the same & that maybe they looked the same?? As goatracer1 said you shouldn't have had to slot your a-arm to make them fit. They should have gone right in & had no pressure on 1 side or the other. I would pull them down & compare them to the old shocks to see if there different in any way form the old shocks.
