67 Dash Tach Question
 

I am contemplating installing a tach in my 67 wagon. I am not sure what route I want to take, as I could take a "day two" approach and install one on the column, or somewhere else in the interior. I would rather go with a stock or stock appearing set up. I know PMD offered the hood tach, but I will not cut the hood for one and have dismissed that idea. I see that there are a couple vendors selling an in dash tach that goes where the clock/block off plate normally is located. (without Rally gauges) Was this something offered originally by PMD? or something the aftermarket is offering to imply is correct? (ala Buick-ish air cleaner sticker) Can anyone clarify or confirm? Any help would be appreciated.

If you had really gauges you would have the tach already. But if you want a tach & don't have the really gauges it would not be FACTORY correct. But if you want to put a dash tach in your car without really gauges you can as it's your car. It will look correct but won't be FACTORY correct. It will look good & add to the appearance of your dash. Yes you can put one in your dash cluster & most won't know the difference. But if your going for the 100% look to be correct you don't want to put one in. Putting a dash tach in your car is a fairly easy job to do as you only have to remove the face where the clock would have gone or the clock if it has a clock. The wiring is really easy to put in & to add the lamps to it to make it light up. So now it's your choice to make , factory dash tach or aftermarket tach on the column or placed somewhere else.

This is also one of those things that is easily reversible, and therefore really shouldn't hurt the resale value should you decide to sell the car one day.

SB, I have a tach on the steering column of my 66 GTO. Looks ok but at night the light in it shines on the windshield. Kind of distracting but not all that bad. You could even get a tach that mounts to the dash if you wanted too.

Seeing I have an HEI distributor I'm not taking a chance hooking the rally tach up and maybe frying it's innards. Actually I'm not sure the tach even works. It's been this way before I even bought the car.

Besides if you have the correct OHC tach it sure would look cool ;)

However if the clock is working "I" would leave it as is.

Hey Jeff, I have the OHC tach in my 455 GTO, reworked for the 8 cyl.

I ran a '66 GTO Tach for years until I secured the correct OHC 6 Tach :D

Actually Jeff I am considering this tach in the 4 hole, not the Rally gauges/tach. (supposedly they make a 6500 red line/OHC 6 version.
