would i be cracked out to put a 400 into a running 62 lesabre?

good running buick nailhead 401. just stock grocery getter. crappy "one" speed auto. not a BOP and i don't have an automatic, but they aren't that much i guess. would need all new exhaust and fab mounts up. sure would smoke'm tho. just talking out my ass as usual.

Crack, No.. Drinking or weed, maybe.. Please re-phrase the question.

car i have is currently as described above. would a sane person drop a brand new pontiac 400 engine into thi car? better?

'ol Pinion head 10-08-2015 12:22 PM

please don't waste a running 400 Pontiac on it.

Dont see a huge advantage with a pontiac engine over a good running nail head with both in near stock form.

THIS^^^ nothing wrong with a nailhead, you should think about changing the tranny and let the motor alone.

Txbobcat 10-08-2015 05:21 PM

Yes change the tranny

bullheimer 10-10-2015 02:59 AM

boy if it were only that easy. yes the trans is the worst part ever. it is not BOP. only a nailhead specific trans will work w/o expensive adapter. only 65-66 trans are desireable too. i'll have fun finding one. i'm still just looking for stinkin wheels with a 3.5 inch center hole!

Scarebird 10-10-2015 12:21 PM

Early GM 1/2 tons had that center hole - but 6 lug...

It may be easier to get a full size 71-96 rim (or 5 lug truck) and open up the pilot hole: 3.06"Ø to 3.48"Ø in a lathe or mill.

PS - or simply turn down the axle pilot and drum hub to 3.06"Ø.

open them up. thats what the last guy did.....with a blow torch!
