rear window glass?
 

I have not done any searching on this yet, but are there sources available to obtain a new rear window glass for the 73?

I'm not sure I don't really know anyone thats ever had to replace one of the back windows. I've replaced the from glass about 25 years ago just because I had a few chips in mine & one was right in the middle of my sight. But if you can't find a rear glass I have a very nice one in my garage attic from my blue 73 455 car. It's a tinted glass I think. Because it was an A/C car, & I think all A/C cars got the tinted glass as part of the A/C option. But I do have one if your in need.

I've looked for a new one in the past and never found a source. The auto glass suppliers I checked didn't have them. I haven't looked lately though, and there may be other places that I didn't check.

Give Pilkington Classic Glass a call at (800) 848-1351. They will be able to assure you are getting the correct windshield glass part.

There is a Pilkington builder in my town, in fact my ex-wife works there packaging glass on 2nd shift. It's in Niles MI.

I forgot to say in my last post I do have a back glass thats up in my attic of my garage & has been there fro at least 20 years. It is a tinted rear glass as it came out of my 73 GTO 455 car that had A/C. I'd sell it for $ 75.00 but it would have to be picked up as I don't think glass will ship very good with out a wooden frame & lots of care to ship it.

Thanks for the note Rex. Been catching up on other fall/winter projects, and have not yet removed my old window. Looks like the PO just used a butyl strip, and not Urethane, so i should be able to use a razor/wire/etc. to remove it with no issue. Hopefully...

When I took my rear window out to paint the car I put mine back in with the urethane so I would be sure it would seal up. But if I have to take it out it will be a PITA.

Safelight did my 71...no probs

If Safelite did your back glass then they would have put it in with the urethane coming out of a pressurized type of caulk gun. Not the byutal.

Don't think I said anything about byutal or urethane nor was the question asked in such a fashion as to indicate a preference. Simple fact is Safelite put in my front and rear windows out of new in stock glass. Not sure what your point is?

Mine was most definitely butyl, and came out pretty easy. I need a little repair, and oddly on the top of window frame, not bottom where you would expect. I know this car sat for a long time, and likely had garbage/debri piled on top of the car. Should be able to do a good job with some MarineTex, etc.

When reinstalling, I do plan on having my local Harmon shop do it with Urethane. On my front windshield, the entire glass slipped down after sitting out on a hot day. PO installed it with Butyl, and did not have one of the lower block plates in place. Had the lower rest plate been there, probably would have been fine. But, Harmon reinstalled it with UR, so not going anywhere now :)
