Weird issue
So I was changing the dash bulbs on my rally gauges and when I was finished I noticed that I no longer have power when the key is switched to the accessory position.
Gen light does not come on anymore and the aftermarket radio I have wired there does not turn on either. Everything worked fine before. I noticed that afterwards the turn signal lights were finicky, but after messing with the socket they work fine now. Is the circuit for the gauges somehow a ground for the accessory position? |
You can post this ?, In the 77-81 Firebird & TA tech for more help.

Car I am working on is a 69 GTO. T/A is gone as indicated in my signature.

I would ask how you changed the bulbs?
Did you take the gauges out to do it? Reach up under the dash? Did you drop the steering column? The bulb circuit would not have the ground for the key. But the gauge module should have some ground straps on it. (but shouldn't affect the key accessory position) If you dropped the steering column possibly moved the ignition switch out of alignment. Basically need to know what you actually did to see what was moved? (or what other things you did to the car) |
I reached under the dash and changed them. Only thing that was removed was the ac knee vents.
|
Is that vent over the steering column?
 |
If you changed to LED's, They only go in one way. if they don't light, try rotating them 180 degrees and re-install.

Got it figured out!
After I read your post John I crawled under the car and looked at the connector on the column. It had come off the clip so I reattached it and everything works fine now. Bulbs were replaced with some some philips blue vision w5w bulbs. I had put leds in them and they were too bright for my liking. |
