factory Starlight was a $90 (Solid Paint) option and was discouraged by dealers as well as the factory. At least it was on my '72 LeMans Sport 400/4-speed ragtop. It was explained to me at a GTOAA Nat's event by someone more knowledgeable than myself. I learned quite a bit about these cars when I judged at a GTOAA meet with John Sawruk walking along with me with his arsenal of books. I actually judged his Starlight GT-37 prior to its restoration. His car had a big "goose-egg" on the rear quarter-to-roof seam. I told John that I just killed the last car we judged for the very same thing and he said it was a common problem. He also told me that Pontiac was offering incentives in the way of bonuses in direct correlation to the amount of recalls and warranty work which he claimed had a positive effect on car quality. Sorry for the digression but I really love these cars. I've had a Cardinal Red/Gold Stripe '71 GT-37 350/2bbl 3-speed, '71 GTO 400/400 Cardinal Red ragtop, a '72 cloth bench seat 4-speed a/c hardtop, a '72 Revere Silver Y-99 4-speed Deluxe Interior 400 car and my factory Starlight '72 Lemans Sport 400/4-speed T-41 ragtop...the GTO convertible you could not order. The '72 Y-99 was the best handling GTO I've ever owned. Those big sway bars really worked!

is the pass door and rear quarter dented in above the body line, or are they reflections?

Marxjunk,

Was one of the GTOs you owned a black 455 automatic ar with a tan/brown interior? I owned one like that around 1988-1989, and sold it to a guy in Indianna or Ohio. The car was very solid except for some front end damage to one side.
