68 gto convertible 1/4's what's the best way to replace them?
 

I have a 68 gto convertible, it had 1/4's put on it once, and they were not done well.
We are planning on replacing the quarters and inner/outer wheelhouse on both sides.
What are my options?
Does anyone make replacement parts that fit?

Anyone who has done this chime in and tell me your experiences.

Find some NOS quarters, cash in the 401k to pay for them, and you are good! Seriously, I am working on a similar project myself. I found a pair of straight but rusty quarters from a donor car, patched the rusted areas and installed them at the factory seams. there is no other way to get the factory curves at the top of the quarter panel. Skins are made for hard top cars and when installed on a convertible can be spotted from a mile away.

We used a repop skin on the 68 Tempest Custom convertible I did a few years ago - went in fine. If you finish it well inside & out, nobody will ever know.

I don't have a convert and have never replaced that part on one but I believe the problem area is the upper surface where it meets the top-well area.
You can see that the upper portion of Boss' car looks like the original metal. If yours still has factory metal in that area, I think you could do it fine.

I'm wondering what's different about the wheelhouse?

The wheelhouses on a convertible are almost flat on the top where as the hardtop wheelhouse has a contour or same shape as the outside wheel opening. The reason for the flat area on top is for the convertible folding top frame to be lowered and have clearance in that area. You can use hardtop wheelhouses also you just have to modify them a little to fit.

I put hardtop quarter skins on my 68 back in 2001. They took some work to get the rite contour but I don't think anyone would ever notice if done rite?
I haven't checked lately if anyone is reproducing quarters and wheelhouses for convertibles or not?

I see they make convertible tubs for a 68-72 chevelle, anyone know if they're the same?

OPGI offer a coupe or convertible quarter panel. It come without sail panel and I'm sure it will need some work to fit. Price is on sale about 250 dollars plus shipping. Love to here from others as I have a quarter that might not be worth fixing on my 68 convertible

I am putting half panels on my within the next month. I have full skins from a hardtop, and outer wheel houses too. I want to maintain the contour of the top section of the panel so I opted to do only the lower.

Chris I used hardtop panels I got from the PY show in the junk room cheap. i only needed a small amount and nothing was rusted in the w/h area.
