Pontiac 400 shooting oil
 

I have a 400 that was shooting oil out of the valley pan onto my air cleaner, I looked and seen a hole which I plugged with a plug that was made for my type of valley pan. Now that it's plugged I have oil shooting out either my oil filter or my dip stick tube all over my exhaust creating all kinds of white smoke. I've check my PCV valve and its fine. What could cause this? The motor was rebuilt by the previous ownerand he installed the pcv into the passenger side head and a breather cap into the driver side head. Oil was just recently changed and has the correct amount.

Sounds like excessive blow-by...that is, compression escaping past the piston rings and pressurizing the crankcase.

Agree with Greg. Blow by gases are trying to find a path to the outside.

My 400 has the PCV connected between the valley pan and carburetor base. Also it has a vented oil filler cap.

You probably have either broken rings or a hole in the piston or a badly broken piston. Yopur pressurizing the crank case to do that. I have done it so I hink thats what happened.

Have you ever had the PCV connected to the valley pan? That's where it's suppose be.

It looks like you have a plug in the PCV grommet and that may be where most of your problem is. You need some vacuum in the crankcase to counter act the pressure.
