New Radiator
 

I'm replacing my 4 row US radiator in our 65 GTO. I'm using a new Randy Red aluminum piece. I knew he uses the 66-67 design so the inlet neck is on the drivers side. That was a running change GM made for 66-67. It is to help make better use of the whole radiator instead of only the passenger side i.e. more complete flow. I have the NAPA upper hose that is listed for the installation in a 66-67. States is cut to length type, no big deal to shorten the radiator end. The car has PS so that's the one I have. I have also changed the thermostat housing to the 66-67 one. Problem is the hose is about 3-4" long toward the driver's side. I don't want to force it over that far and possibly kink it when things get warm under the hood and it just doesn't look right. The Gates number is 7718. I have seen the non PS hose and it looks really short. The guy at Ames was very helpful with some GM numbers but haven't found anybody, NAPA or AZ, that can match them up. Any suggestions??????Please reply:confused:

Do you have Tri-power on the car?

I should have mentioned that but this car is not a tri power car.

What's the part number? I do have a 3986380 if you look it up and the curve is right, it's yours.

Hope you have better luck than I did with the 2 Rodney Reds I had in my car!

I've looked up the cross reference. It shows up as 71 to 74 Chevelle with a small block. I went to one of the box auto stores and they had one but it's not the deal. So tomorrow I'll take the GM number with me and stop the local NAPA store and see what they can come up with.

He's made some guarantees so if it doesn't work I'll be in contact with him again. I've still got the box and packing material. So I've got my fingers crossed. What was your experience with them?? I've got the two row down flow aluminum with 1" tubes. It's gotta be better than the 4 row brass US radiator.

I bought one and paid a hefty amount, I believe it was around $600. It lasted a whole 5 months and started leaking. My car stays in a garage and gets trailered everywhere. I called and he said he would repair it. I swapped my original back in and took it to Norwalk with me. He said he would have it fixed and back in 3-weeks. It took over 5 months to get it repaired and that took numerous calls. When he finally told m it was done he told me I owed him $250.00 for the repair and basically he was giving me a deal. Having $600 already invested I was not happy. I paid and got the rebuilt one back. It had a build up of scales inside after 3 weeks. Still using but it does not cool as well as the first or the factory one.
Live and Learn for me- No more Rodney Red.

Cold Case makes the correct aluminum set up and for half that! ;)
