Does anybody know what ever happened to this car? Anybody have any additional photos ? I have seen 3 the car show picture and 2 other 3/4 shots front and back.

I tried to Google it.what year was it? Any Links you can share?

It was a 1975 white car with red,white and blue striping with all American on rear quarter panel. It should show up on google. That's how I found it . I do have the 3 photos but can't get at then right now .

It was a 1974 show car. It became the prototype for the can am but to my knowledge never left GM.

According to Tim Claremont the car was ordered to be crushed. I believe he had a copy of the crush order and someone somewhere has a piece of the spoiler as a souvenir.
I believe at the time the Manager of Pontiac was not a performance enthusiast.

Why do they always crush these cars? It was not some very unique concept car just a slightly modified grand am, such a shame . I guess the rear center section of the rear spoiler is the same as the 77 can am. Those outer tail light sections would be for the 74 and 75 only, would be nice to have those. I'm surprised Pontiac never made a rear spoiler for the Lemans line from 73-77. This car I think would have looked great as a companion to the Trans am SE Bandit cars. Maybe even out sold it . The gold pin striping around all the body lines with the black paint and a T-roof . It would be a AWESOME looking car.

They did LeMans GT prototypes that had similar rear spoilers but never went into production. Maybe someone should build a ghost "Bandit" LeMans!

The black car on the left is that a 74 SE Trans Am ? I thought they were released in 76 .Or was this a prototype show car as well ? Or just a black Trans Am

They don't always get crushed...

but when they do it's due to liability and product security.

The cars are not "saleable" so they basically sit around until somebody gets tired of storing them.

The various disciplines (Engineering or the Design Studio) have vehicle fleet numbers they have to adhere to so eventually it's "out with the old" to make room for the new.

That's the Bill Mitchell 1973 Trans Am 455. The car was painted black and gold, then had an SD-455 installed. Pontiac updated it to the new 1974 nose and tail and sent it out on the auto show circuit. In 1976, the same car was updated again with a 1976 nose and tail, and they cut the rear window for the wraparound glass. The 1976 version of this car would be the one they used as a model for what would become the 1976 Trans Am Special Edition.

Anybody notice one picture has no sunroof visible and the auto show picture has one (glass, not steel). Late add before the show?

some of the design study cars don't even have internals in the engine or trans to save money & time. Some don't even have brakes on the car so the cars or cars aren't safe. I've seen at some shows a long time ago , in the early 70's with no wiring.

After I looked again, it might be open rather than glass.

To me the picture in Post #6 seems to have an open sunroof. ( I could be wrong) as for the other shots I would bet they were airbrushed out for some reason. The car seems to have the standard retractable sun roof to me.
