Anyone Here Have a Catalog to Confirm a GM Part Number?
 

Greg, I don't see that number in my parts book.

399292 is for all 1968's without tilt wheel.

399294 is for all 1968's with tilt wheel.

Thanks Mike, I've found one in an original GM parts box numbered 399292 but the number on the cam is 399296. Your thoughts?

The 399292 / 399294 are the 'part numbers' for the items.
But the items probably comprise more than one individual item.

The actual cast number would be different, with each piece having a 'cast number' which when in a whole unit comprise the 'part number' given on the box or in the catalogs.

My search shows it as a part number for a non tilt unit. Firebird Central shows one as STE-111A

The 6 digit number when & if you order it from GM will probably have at least 3-4 number changes before it get to your hands. Most all of the 6 digit number is old GM numbering system & won't probably even be in the system anymore. Most of the 6 digit numbers were phased out in about 1995 to the 8 or 9 digit number system.

Rex, that is probably true.

If the cast number on the part was used to try to order a replacement, there would probably be no 'number' in the books on it.

It would be the same as the engine short block, if you wanted a 9799914 block you don't order with that number. The block came with pistons, rings, etc so the order number was something different.

Same for timing covers and others.

It would be nice to get a 'cast in number' list with cross over to the part number.
