clutch pedal chewing up floor mat
 

I recently got the repro rubber floor mats for my 67 GTO 4 speed and already the clutch pedal is mangling the mat. I guess I never paid attention to it with the the carpeted mat. Is this a common occurrence and if so what is anyone doing about it? I was thinking of fabbing up a stop but I'm concerned that could compromise the clutch travel. I can't imagine back in the day of picking up you're new manual trans car only to have the mat screwed up when you got home!

I've never had an issue such as that.
I would be really upset as the mats in the '66 are NOS.
Even when I shift hard/quick I have never had the pedal travel that low/far.
I think you may want to look into the pedal adjustment.

Good point although what's the adjustment to limit pedal travel? Everything else associate with the clutch is good.

I'm not aware that there's an adjustment to limit downward travel of the clutch pedal. I believe it's limited by the throwout bearing 'bottoming out' against the clutch. You might be able to turn the adjusting rod to bring it up some. Could be maybe the wrong clutch fork or throwout bearing?

Mine clutch pedal hits the floor in my 67. I was told there is no stop for the pedal. The clutch is adjusted correctly also. Been that way when I got it in 93 and after my restoration it is the same. The floor is the stop. If anybody has any other info, let us know.

OK let me back myself up.
I didn't mean it to sound as if there is a stop.
I am referring to travel and engagement.
My pedal can be pushed to the floor, however it takes a bit of effort.
My engagement starts within less then 2" of travel so I'm never all the way down/low.
It could be as simple as the return springs being light/worn or an incorrect throw-out.
Might even be the clutch itself. Type and pitch of the fingers.

Even though we don't have pedal stops I do like the idea depicted in the sheets posted above,
this could be an easy add on to help prevent this issue??
