Fair price on a 80-81 Turbo T/A
 

I found a original 90k 80-81 turbo T/A that is complete but fair shape. I'm thinking it would be a cool car for my oldest boy and am flirting with negotiating for it. The thing is he's asking 10K for a survivor car and I'm thinking the 5-6K range. Who's way off? It's a red car and needs paint almost as bad as my red 81.

I guess the biggest answer is "depends." Without pictures it's hard to tell. Turbo cars are somewhat more desirable than the N\A 301 cars, and any 2nd gen Trans Am that isn't a complete rot box these days is commanding more than *I* think they are worth. I would say depending on body rust, turbo condition, and AC functionality, if all of that is great and fine then it is closer to $10k. If the AC stuff is all removed and the turbo is coked up, $5k is closer.

That said, $10k for a turbo car is pretty steep so I would expect you'd have to really want it and it be in really good shape for that price, as you likely won't find too many other buyers out there looking for them.

Doesn't look bad despite the white walls... I'd drive it as-is providing it doesn't leak water or have no floors. That said... for $10k he's lacking a bit of pictures and info.

I like it, but not for $10k. I think you could do better even if you really wanted a turbo car.

No way, 1. 301 sorry, 2. you ever want to learn patience, work on a 301 t. 3. It needs body work, those seats are expensive to replace, and paint job=7500 alone. Thats a $4500 car, go with your gut feeling. Keep your eye on it, or go insult him with an open offer thats good today, tomorrow or 6 months from now.

The seats were one of the few things that looked presentable. From looking at the pics they look pretty decent.
That body though..... dents galore. "Needs paint" is a huge understatement in his add. He is dreaming if he thinks the car is worth $10K in that condition. Even if it runs tip-top.
I agree with your make-an-offer assessment.

P.S. If you look close, you'll see the head liner hanging down.
