Beltline moldungs
 

Bought these beltline moldings a couple years ago, I believe from Performance Years. Notice how they are almost 1/2" from where they touch the window to the chrome strip.

Just bought these from Ames, the higher quality ones they carry. Notice how they are only about 3/16".
Where can I get the style in my first photo?

How do they compare to factory ones?

Personally, I'd go with the short ones from Ames... I would assume the car isn't going to be driven in the rain, and the long ones will put scratches in the glass eventually
if you roll the windows up and down a lot. I,ve had the Ames ones on my car since 2000 and they still look new and they don't scratch my glass, but one caution....on the rear quarter moldings
you need to remove the hard plastic blow out clips from the felt surface otherwise you will scratch your rear windows with them right away. This also happened on the original GM beltline moldings.
They are totally unnecessary, the glass seals to the weatherstrips fine without them.

The factory ones are wide like the ones on the green car in the photos above.

Gtohurstjudge, they are ment to rest against the window but I am sure you know that. If they are kept clean there's no way they will scratch the window.
Just want them to work as intended.

Actually they will scratch the glass because dirt and grit blowing around in the air
will get in the crevice between the rubber and the glass and scratch the glass. I had to replace my original front window glass because of this in 1980. Since then I have had shorter
glass runs and my windows still look perfect. they really don't need to touch the glass if you don't drive the car in the rain, but of course what you use is up to you. I suspect that the Ames glass runs are purposely made shorter to avoid scratching the glass. As for the rear blow out clips, my original rear windows were ruined by 1973. I removed the blowout clips, replaced the windows in 1973 and they still look perfect today.

I think you will find that there is a hard plastic block riveted to the outer glass
runs for the rear quarter windows. the theory of these was to hold the glass tight to the weatherstrips, but the only thing they actually do is scratch the rear windows horribly. All
the repro moldings I have bought had the plastic blocks like the factory ones....just drill out the rivets and remove these plastic blocks on the outer rear glass runs and it will save your rear windows.
