1968 Lemans 3 speed manual trans question
 

I have a 1968 Lemans with a heavy duty 3 speed manual trans...what kind of transmission would it be? Muncie? Saginaw? I also heard they put some Ford transmissions in? Any help would be great, thanks.

If it is the HD 3 speed and has a top cover, it is a Dearborn...which is a Ford unit. It is indestructible.

I remember reading an article in HPP magazine by John Sawruk where one of his jobs at GM engineering was durability testing drivelines. They did this by doing back to back runs with full throttle power shifts. Best day at work ever?

He said the only trans that would hold up when the 455's came out was the Dearborn 3 speed.

Yup. That was called the Bonzai test.

I have one in my '67 too, but the lack of OD and no compatible Gear Vendors options make it tricky since I want to drive on the highways and freeways too without buzzing the engine way up there.
