68 Firebird 400 MT "UQ" Radiator
 

Is anyone aware of sources for an original
68 Firebird 400 MT "UQ" Radiator?

I've heard that Heartbeat City sells exact reproduction Harrison radiators for Camaros but I'm not sure they are correct for a Firebird.

What are the original embossed left/right tank codes?
(besides the crimped on "UQ" tag)

'68 Camaro tanks are: "OL" for right and "IL" for left.

OO on passenger side and IL on driver's side.

:cell: Ironically I played email tag with Heartbeat city yesterday on this very topic. They say they don't have the ability to build a "UQ" radiator as they don't have the correct tanks. Of course, they can sell you a "UQ" tag. If anyone gets a different story from them, please let us know.

Here is Heartbeat city OO IL UQ 4 core MT radiator. They have the correct tanks but they put a BB curved hose connector on it. http://www.heartbeatcitycamaro.com/s...MT-4C-CN-1969/

They use to have just the tanks on their web site but they have removed them since I last looked.

Just so you know, I actually saw this on your website prior to your reply and that's one of the clues I had to identifying the right radiator, along with the 68 master parts manual. I do have a couple of questions for you in looking at your "UQ" tag.

The repop tag sold by Heartbeat city has the GM part number of the radiator stamped at the bottom of it. I don't see a stamped part number on yours. Is it just hard to read, or did the originals not have the part number?

Also, the UQ tag in your photos looks like it has some sort of a stamped hook attached to the tag. Is it really attached or just resting up against the tag?

Interesting trivia for a correct restoration.

The part number was on the bottom of the tag but most of the number wear away there. It the darkest UQ tag image if you enlarge it you can faintly see some numbers but the UP tag looks blank and looks to be made that way. It mentions on the camaro research about those numbers wear away quickly. Something about the material of the tag and the stamp was not very thick, the number seem to wear away quick for rust I guess.

The hook appears to be part of the tag. I'm missing my tag and I do not have a hook there so it may have been together.

This images of these radiators was from me researching the UQ radiator and what tanks they had and the tag itself.

I special ordered the OO IL UQ 4 core MT radiator from heartbeatcity with the correct upper neck. I ordered last year and it too a couple months getting it. It had been setting all winter and I finally got it painted this weekend. The UQ tag is installed to. Ready to get installed.
