Convertible top switch functionality ?
 

Can someone confirm the proper functionality of a 69 Firebird convertible top switch. Does the switch require one to constantly hold the switch down to function or is momentary (let off the switch and it immediately stops). Mine is staying in (operating) when I let off but easily will go to "neutral" when pushed to do so. I am thinking it is "sticky" but no way to clean it internally. Any advice ? Thank You. I'm almost positive that the switch should shut off when you quit pushing it.

There is no 'limit' detectors to shut it off, so it should rely on the operator to lift off the switch to stop it.

Possibly the 'rocker' part (spring) is wore out or broke.

Yes, you need to press the rocker switch and hold it down. It should spring back to neutral as soon as you stop pushing it.

Probably just dried up grease is making it stick.

Hi guy's, I solved the mystery. Johnta1 was correct. There is a small roll pin which holds the plastic rocker switch in place, I removed this roll pin and took a look inside. Inside there are two thin strips of spring steel for the "momentary" action, well one of these strips is broke in half therefore not giving enough "spring" to return the rocker switch back to neutral. I will see if I can locate some thin spring steel and make a replacement piece. Thank You. Tim john---
